The best athlete of sports club “ŠALTINIS” in 2019 – Aušra Garunkšnytė

For the second time, after a one-year interval, a marathon runner Aušra Garunkšnytė has been selected by members of the sports club “ŠALTINIS” as the best “ŠALTINIS” athlete. She was encouraged to train at Paralympic-level by coach Linas Balsys, winner of the bronze medal at Athens Paralympic Games Marathon.

Aušra ran her first marathon in September 2017 in Vilnius, showing result 3 h 32 min 43 sec – at that time she missed 3 minutes to reach Tokyo 2020 standard. Nevertheless she systematically pursued her goal: in 2019 she took part in the IPC Grand prix athletics competition and became the winner of the 1500m track. She also participated in the Berlin International Marathon, won the national Pabaiskas – Ukmerge run, won bronze medal of the national run in Senvagė. Aušra also participated in many other runs in Lithuania:  “Gyvybės ir mirties keliu”, “Around the Green Lakes 2019″, Kulvietis monument – Jonava, Christmas run in Vilnius. Aušra became champion of LAS winter and summer athletics championships – middle and long distances, won LAS autumn cross-country run.
Ranked 4th in the London International Marathon (T12/13) Aušra complied with the Tokyo Paralympics standard and got the right to participate in the Tokyo Paralympic Games and became a Paralympian.

In 2019 Aušra was awarded as “Breakthrough of the Year” by Lithuanian Paralympic Committee.
The “ŠALTINIS” club members has also selected two top goalball players, one athlete and one swimmer among the TOP 5 athletes of the club. Here they are in alphabetical order: Mantas Brazauskis, Arnoldas Januškevičius, Justas Pažarauskas and Karolina Voiciukaitė.

The club’s TOP 2019 athletes will be honored during the club’s traditional summer sports festival on July 4th in Zelva.
Zaneta Voiciukienė, a former member, champion and record holder of the national swimming team, has become the best oracle of this competition – she listed all TOP 5 athletes.
