The best ŠALTINIS athlete of 2020 – AUŠRA GARUNKŠNYTĖ, second year in a row
Members of the sports club ŠALTINIS have chosen the marathon runner Aušra Garunkšnytė as the best ŠALTINIS athlete of 2020. Aušra has got this title for the third time, for the second year in a row.
Aušra has achieved high results in the marathon competition and was encouraged by her coach Linas Balsys, the winner of the Athens Paralympic Games marathon bronze medal.
Aušra ran the marathon for the first time in September 2017 in Vilnius, with a result 3:32:43 – less than 3 minutes away from getting a ticket to Tokyo Paralympic Games. She continued, persistently and systematically, pursuing her goal and in 2019 she earned a ticket to participate in the Tokyo Paralympic Games, but the Games were postponed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Aušra continues to train persistently, demonstrated good sports results throughout the season. In 2020 Aušra participated in competition and got a title of LAS Indoor Athletics champion in 1500 and 3000 m runs, LASS Summer 1500 and 5000 m running champion, LAS Autumn Cross champion in the absolute classification, won 3rd place in the national run Druskininkai RUN. She achieved the best result by participating in the marathon run “For Freedom” in Vilnius, where she broke the record of the Lithuanian marathon for visually impaired women, showing result 3:04:01.
ŠALTINIS members have also selected one athlete, one goalball representative and two swimmers as the TOP 5 athletes of 2020: Arnoldas Januškevičius, Justas Pažarauskas, Elnara Urbanovič and Karolina Voiciukaitė.
The best athletes of the club will be honored during the traditional ŠALTINIS summer sports festival on July 3, 2021.
The best oracle of the competition has become one of the youngest members of the club, swimmer Augustas Voiciukas – he most accurately listed four out of five best athletes.
